Carta para los reyes (Novice)
As one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the Spanish-speaking world, El día de los reyes (or Three Kings Days) provided a great way for students to get back into the groove of writing en español after the winter break. After learning about the cultural traditions that surround this holiday, which is celebrated on January 5 and 6, students had the chance to write a letter to the Three Kings! Students were given the chance to either write the letter as themselves or as a character. Each letter contains a greeting, a description of who they are (including name, age, where they live, and a few adjectives), an expression of something they would like from the Three Kings, and a closing. Have you ever celebrated Three Kings Day? What kinds of things would you ask for from the Three Kings this year?
Frances: I really liked learning about El Día de Los Reyes, and I felt that this project was nice and quick while still having us exercise all we’d learned about the holiday.
Jojo: Learning about El día de los reyes was very cool. I learned so many things. Writing the letter was also fun as well.
Pashya: This assignment was interesting because I got to learn more about the Spanish culture.
