¿Sabías que…?: La historia de las hermanas Mirabal (I2)

Minerva by Nelly Andrade-Hughes.

Minerva by Nelly Andrade-Hughes.

This trimester students read the short novel Minerva and learned the story of the Mirabal sisters: Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and María Teresa who directly and indirectly fought against the oppressive and violent regime of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, who ruled over the Dominican Republic from 1930 until his assassination in 1961.

While reading the book each student researched and presented about a person, an event or a place connected to the story and to the Mirabal sisters. In addition to their class presentation, they wrote a synthesis of their topic.

Once all students had presented their topics, the class worked on a collaborative map of the Dominican Republic in which they represented their topic with images, key words and two sentences taken from their syntheses. These elements were then placed on the map, on an area associated with the topic.
