Una receta importante para mi familia (I-MS)
For the second half of the unit students focused on connecting food to their families. We read two short stories from the book Cuentos con sazón by Puerto Rican author Lulu Delacre. In the short stories book the central character, Carmen Teresa, receives a journal as a gift from a family friend during the Holiday season, and in contemplating how to use it, she is told stories from several members of her family that are centered around meaningful dishes to each of them. The class was asked to choose a specific dish that had meaning to them or their families. Subsequently they wrote a recipe in which they used positive and negative informal commands and direct object pronouns to give instructions on how to prepare the dish. They also created a video of the cooking process. Lastly, each student wrote a brief account of a memory associated with it.
