Fotonovela: Aventura de mi alebrije (I-MS)
At the start of their second trimester students began to conceptualize and design their alebrije sculptures. They created scientific-like drawings of them, which were exhibited during our second trimester Exhibition evening, alongside original short stories featuring their original creatures. A week before we transitioned to MAVVERIC, students had started constructing the metal frames for their papel maché sculptures. Eager to see the finished product, the class continued working on this hands-on project, while working on their food unit, from their homes. Once their alebrijes were finished, students selected to create a “fotonovela”, featuring their creatures, as their last project of the year. In a “fotonovela”, photography, narration and dialogue are combined to tell, often dramatic or tragic, stories. Each student was tasked with writing a script in which they incorporated all the vocabulary themes and grammar concepts learned throughout the year! They then took pictures for their “fotonovelas”, and finished by editing and adding narration and dialogue. Throughout the process they were asked to share their work in progress with their classmates, and finished by presenting their work to their peers.
