French A
This trimester, students in French A took a close look at the Province of Quebec and its beautiful sites.
The theme for the term was La vie de Famille à Québec, and was an opportunity for the class to learn how to talk about their family members, and describe them. This led students to use sentences containing the present tense, possessives as well as descriptive adjectives.
Through weekly vocabulary quizzes and games, students in French A have continued to build-up their vocabulary, and learn how to express themselves more and more freely through their growing knowledge of French grammar.
The first project which students completed this trimester was called Mon Blason Familial, and consisted in having students create their own coat of arms, which would help describe and introduce themselves to their peers. This project involved some research into the history of coats of arms in France, as well as a written assignment in which students had to elaborate on which of their interests they decided to represent in their blason, and why. Finally, students got creative and designed their coats of arms and proudly presented them to the rest of the class.
The second project students worked on this term, was the Portrait de Famille project, in which student created their own interactive Family Tree! This was a fun way for students to practice their newly acquired vocabulary and speaking skills, as they introduced each member of their (extended) family.
French C
This trimester, students in French C took a close look at the world of work in France.
The theme for the term was Le Monde du Travail, and was an opportunity for the class to learn how to introduce themselves, their professional experience and other skills in a formal setting in French. This led to students reviewing the vocabulary for different professions, job opportunities and office vernacular; as well as studying the future simple and futur antérieur (future perfect) tenses and how to use them jointly.
Through weekly vocabulary quizzes and games, students in French C expanded their vocabulary to the more formal professional world, and learned how to present themselves using set expressions specific to the context of applying for positions and job interviews.
The main goal this trimester was for French C students to prepare for an entretien d’emauche (job interview) in French. This involved the creation of their Curriculum Vitae, as well as writing a Lettre de Motivation (cover letter) for a fictional position of their choice.
Finally, in order to prepare for the actual job interview, students watched the 2011 French movie Intouchables, and studied two specific scenes in which the main character Driss is going through the same process. Students then went through a mock interview, which they reviewed before taking the actual interview.
