Animales de poder (AMS)

After reading chapter seven of La ciudad de las bestias, where Alex discovers his connection to the black jaguar of the Amazon, students embarked on their second creative expression project associated with the book.

Evan and Jesús started by doing a reflective and meditative exercise through which they identified an animal from whom they, like Alex, draw strength and courage during difficult times. They then created a list of traits associated with these animals, as well as a list of their own traits. Subsequently, they developed metaphors in which they compared themselves to their animals. Lastly, they wrote poems for their animals of power.

Our edition of La ciudad de las bestias (to the left) has an eye-catching cover. The book title is framed by a border in which one can see the faces of different people, animals, and a variety of objects. As we immersed ourselves in the story, we discovered that each of these smaller frames was intrinsically connected to the plot. We wanted to recreate something similar in our second project. Hence, once their poems had been throughly revised, each student planned and created a border to accompany their text. In their border they included images associated to the traits and particularities of their animals and of themselves.
