Leyendas + Bestias (AMS)
The “Leyenda + Bestias” project was the first of two creative expression projects the Avanzado MS students completed while reading Isabel Allende’s YA novel La ciudad de las bestias.
After reading chapter three, in which Alex discovers that he, his grandmother Kate, and the rest of the International Geographic team are traveling deep into the Amazon in search of a mythical and terrorizing beast, students learned about other fantastical creatures said to live within the South American rainforest. From there, they went on to write a short legend about a creature of their own creation. In their brief writing piece they explained their creature’s origin, habits and their general behavior towards humans.
Once these written pieces were revised, the time came to make string puppets of their beasts! Students drew sketches and identified the materials they would need in order to complete them. They were given creative freedom and encouraged to use any materials they desired to create their puppets. As soon as these were finished, each student made a video retelling their legends while manipulating their puppets.
Enjoy looking at and learning about their terrorizing creatures!
