I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to make a video essay about this topic, but as my research continued, I knew that I wanted to make a video that was more than just detailing the history of Italian Fascism and the similarities it shares with modern Fascist politics. I wanted to explore how Fascism’s ideological weakness lead to its downfall and how Neo-Fascists try to gain power while having to grapple with its previous failures. The result was an hour and twenty-minute video essay that I chose to call “The Collapsing Leviathan: The Collapsing Leviathan: Fascist Italy, and Modern Day Fascism and Ultranationalism”.
