Dar voz a una escena (I2)

After our Tres Reyes Magos mini project, we shifted our focus in Español Intermedio 2 to learn about legends in Latin America. Coincidently, “El callejón del beso”, the legend from Guanajuato we were going to read about, is centered around the love story of doña Carmen and don Luis.

This gave us the perfect opportunity to learn vocabulary related to relationships. We worked on definitions, wrote original sentences, used MURAL to think about groupings and to add more relevant content to our initial list of words, and discussed what is important in a relationship. Then, we applied what we had learned to the context of the short animated film The Gift or “¿Cómo funciona el amor?” (2013) written and directed by Julio Pot. This seven minute short film beautifully depicts a relationship, from the first time two people see each other, to the early stages of falling in love, and a sad, but hopeful end.

Students worked in pairs or individually to give voice (dar voz) to a scene of their choosing. To do so, they wrote a script for a specific scene from the silent short film. They had to use the vocabulary learned about relationships. They also had to incorporate, at least, one sound effect in their recording.
