Poemas para la comida (IMS)

As an introduction to our food unit, this trimester students in Intermedio MS read the poems “El supermercado“ and “Arroz“ from the poetic anthology Todo es canción by Cuban writer Alma Flor Ada. Her two poems served as inspiration for students to compose their own two poems were they wrote about their trips to buy food at the supermarket and an ode to their favorite food. Students were asked to incorporate a variety of food vocabulary words and adjectives describing the taste, texture, and color of foods, in addition to expressing their opinions about different ingredients and dishes made with them. After writing and recording videos reciting their poems, students completed two creative expression projects. They illustrated their “El supermercado“ poems and created “cut“ poems about their favorite foods. They finished this project by writing a brief artist statement of their creative pieces.
