The third trimester was a very eventful time for Division 3 MST! In trimester 3, students undertook the largest project they’ve had this year in the form of the SHEWASSA (a Simple Human Experiment With A Strong Statistical Analysis). After studying statistics and the ways to draw conclusions from data, students created experiments to analyze human behavior, psychology, and decision-making. After performing their experiments on the rest of the school, students wrote scientific journal articles about their results and conclusions, ending with an oral presentation of their findings. They also created infographics to demonstrate their findings from a student survey, showing how they can extrapolate from polling results. Additionally, students created ‘The Organ Oracle.’ The Organ Oracle is a textbook about organ systems designed by students for students. The goal of its construction was to produce educational materials that have been created from a student’s perspective, made understandable and humorous. Finally, students completed a series of dissections and maintained lab notebooks, often with partners. Students maintained lab notes for the dissection of each of the following: a rat, a sheep’s brain, and a sheep’s eye.
