How are airport airsides designed to maximize efficiency and safety?

My research focuses on airport design, specifically how the airside (runways and taxiways) are designed in terms of efficiency and safety. My literature review demonstrates the intricate connections between airside efficiency and safety. My final project simulated three different layouts of Norwood Memorial Airport, and tested each one in terms of its efficiency relative to the current layout.
