Students started this trimester exploring the term “another Vietnam.” Unfortunately, the term has been invoked many times since the end of the Vietnam War. For this project, students worked in small groups to explore foreign conflicts, how these conflicts are connected to Vietnam, and mathematical research of the conflicts. The small groups developed oral presentations and taught their peers about their conflict and a mathematical connection. These presentations were guided by the question “How has Vietnam echoed through US foreign policy and how does mathematical research help us understand the choices that the US has made time and time again?”
