Data Modeling

Chat live with our students! After perusing our projects, join us for a discussion and Q&A on Wednesday, December 9th from 7:10-8:30pm EST. Click here to visit our Zoom room!

To begin our practice and exploration with using functions, students were tasked to create their own data sets through mini experiments. They were presented with a variety of experiment options—from rolling balls down ramps to breaking spaghetti with weights—and conducted a series of trials to get their data sets.

Once they had their data, students worked to find different functions that fit the shape of their data. This process involved careful observation and mathematical testing to see which options worked best. They conducted an error analysis to see which equation best aligned with their data set, then explained their conclusions in their lab reports.
