Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud is an annual, school-wide project focused on the skill of public poetry recitation. First, students choose a work from a collection of hundreds of poems on the Poetry Out Loud website. Then, they spend time observing and analyzing poetry recitation, annotating their poems with the dramatic choices that they want to make, and rehearsing for each other in class. In late January, all Meridian students recite their chosen poems for the entire community.
Because an all-school recitation was not safe this year, students instead took turns reciting for a distanced audience of classmates in the Parish Hall. Photographs from these recitations are below.
