Distinciones (A1)

This trimester, two students in A1 completed projects in addition to the required curriculum. Both students designed and executed these projects entirely on their own. Despite being two very distinct endeavors, both of these projects are a strong example of the students’s initiative, creativity, curiosity, and superb grasp of the language. Please enjoy!

ZAYNA

During the first trimester, we learned about the Franco dictatorship in Spain. In order to understand why the dictatorship was able to happen, we went over the general history of Spain and who has occupied the country. One group that has controlled Spain were the Arabs. The Arabs were in Spain after the Romans for nearly 800 years from 711 to 1492. While in Spain, they made a big impact linguistically and culturally. For my final project, I made videos for six areas in which the Arabs influenced Spain: linguistics, Flamenco, science/medicine, agriculture, architecture, and food. I also made an introduction with a brief history of Spain, general information on all of my topics, and a conclusion with my final thoughts about what I learned. I put these videos into a Prezi presentation to make my project more interactive. You can view the presentation in order by clicking the arrows, or feel free to click around to the topics you find more interesting! ¡Ojalá que le guste!

MARY ALICE

This trimester, I worked on a distinctions project, which proved to be a big challenge but was also a lot of fun. For my project, I wrote an original song (in Spanish) about a small town in Argentina named San Carlos de Bariloche. The song is informative, and describes everything you can do in the town. I then made a video in the style of "Genius Verified", a series on Youtube where artists explain the meaning behind the lyrics of their popular songs. My video had me playing an artist explaining the lyrics of the song about Bariloche, and is meant to be a video that is funny (and slightly awkward, like the Genius videos) but also informational.
