La tortuga y el pato (A1)

During this trimester, we read the book La historia de una gaviota y del gato que le enseñó a volar by Luis Sepúlveda, which tells the story of a cat in a port town in Germany who makes a promise to a dying seagull that he will take care of her egg (a chick once it hatches) and eventually teach it how to fly. We then created a puppet show based on the events of the story, though we changed things like the setting and the animals! In our version, the seagulls were turtles, the cats were ducks, and the town in Germany was Boston. We wrote a script, created our puppets, backgrounds, and props, and finally performed the play for an audience of other Spanish students at Meridian! Take a look at photos from the performance by scrolling through the slideshow to the right. Please also enjoy our performance by watching the video below! As a final step, we also wrote reflections in Spanish about the unit as a whole, considering everything from what we’ve learned about current environmental issues to working as a team to put on an original puppet show for a live audience! You can read these reflections linked below.

Jesse says: I loved reading this book, and then getting to create our own version was really fun. Even if it didn’t always make perfect sense, everything from writing the script, to making the sets and puppets, to performing our show was a great time.

Zayna says: I had a great time re-writing the script to incorporate new characters. The final performance was also very fun, thanks to the very cute puppets!
