Intermediate Watercolor, Divisions 3 & 4
This trimester in Watercolor, returning students spent their first class reviewing their achievements, challenges, and interests from the fall term. This reflection led to further consideration of what they would like to accomplish this winter. After describing their thoughts and experiences and finding exemplars that illustrated their objectives, students created a three-week itinerary to help them structure their first weeks of the term. Students were encouraged to think about processes and techniques they’d like to build on or try, subjects they intend to explore more deeply, and where they hope to see the most progress.
Encouraging the students to set their own goals and timeframe helped to support their individualism and self-direction. At the end of the third week, students returned to their reflection and plan, adding another entry to state their intentions for the remainder of the term. The incredible range of work exhibited here is a result of the impressive commitment and passion of these students who dedicated almost seven months to watercolor painting.
