A native of the coastal northwestern town of Isabela, Puerto Rico, Leisa moved to Boston in 2010 after finishing her bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature, Hispanic Studies, and French. Here she pursued graduate studies and taught various levels of Spanish at Boston University, UMass Lowell, Simmons College, and UMass Boston. Prior to arriving at Meridian, Leisa taught high school Spanish in Boston Public Schools. Throughout her career, and especially at Meridian, she has focused on making language learning relevant to students by fostering oral communication and written expression that is grounded in real world resources and art-making experiences. Outside of teaching, Leisa enjoys baking, knitting vibrant sweaters, painting abstracts, and spending time with her wife, daughter, and pup Olivia. Leisa joined Meridian in 2017.
