This trimester, the students in French B discovered more about the culturally rich francophone country of Sénégal. Indeed, our theme for term was “On fait les magasins au Sénégal” and focused on the vocabulary for Shopping and Fashion. The main language objectives for French B students was to be able to ask and offer help, as well as ask and give personal opinions and finally, make decisions in French. In order for students to meet this goals, they learned to used demonstratives and interrogative adjectives, the verb “mettre”, the passé-composé of -er verbs, as well as irregular verbs and adverbs to use with this specific tense. These activities culminated in our Wax Project, which had students use their writing and speaking skills as well as getting creative by designing their own clothing items, using the beautiful Batik patterns which are a trademark of the Senegalese culture.
