Distinctions
Many classes at Meridian include the opportunity to explore topics related to the class in greater depth and breadth. In such cases, students may opt, at the beginning of a term, to take the class for Credit with Distinction. In Humanities, this traditionally means reading an additional book and designing and completing a project inspired by that book.
Mara’s Project
This trimester for distinctions I read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It is about the work Stevenson did to help people on death row. For my project I talked with Beth Schwartzapfel who is a criminal justice reporter for the Marshall Project. I used this interview to create a podcast.
Grace’s Project
For distinctions this trimester, I read the classic novel Native Son by Richard Wright. This was and continues to be a groundbreaking piece of literature. For my project, I wrote an essay exploring the motif of vision and blindness in the text, and what I think it symbolizes.
